Company KONČAR – Electric vehicles Inc. was founded in 1970 under the name RADE KONČAR – ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE.
In 1987, the Company moved to a new modern location in the western part of Zagreb, the Jankomir Industrial Zone, and due to the transformation of the economic system in Croatia in 1990 became KONČAR – ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE.
Due to the expansion of activity and production program in 2005, the Company changed its name to KONČAR – Electric Vehicles Inc.
The company started its production of dielectric electric locomotives under the licenses of the Swedish company ASEA, and at the same time it started its own development in the field of electric locomotives, which in 1981 resulted in its own solution of modern Thyristor locomotives for the 25 kV power supply system, 50 Hz.
In the mid-90s of the last century, a unique solution for the modernization of diode locomotives was developed to become thyristor. Modernization of the tram started somewhat earlier.
In 2003, development began, and in 2005 serial delivery of 100% low-traffic trams.
In 2005, the development project of the low-profile electric train was launched, and prototype train tests were successfully carried out during 2009 and 2010.
In 2015, the first Low Voltage Dielectric Train was produced, which in 2017 received the TSI Loc & Pas certificate.
